Abstract

The present study analyzes the theoretical-methodological foundations of the development of professional competencies of future geography teachers, taking into account the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the higher education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is investigated to what extent IB principles - such as research–based learning, formative assessment and global mindset – are integrated into the training of future teachers. The study is based on a literature analysis and a comparison of national and international training programs. The results show systemic barriers in Kazakh universities, as well as the lack of specialized modules for preparing for the IB context. At the same time, successful international models – from Singapore, Canada and Finland – will be presented, which can serve as a template for reforms. Concrete recommendations are given on the curricular restructuring and on strengthening practical training.
