THE HISTORY OF THE CREATION AND ACTIVITIES OF THE AUSTRIAN COMMUNE "ULFELD" IN THE CITY OF KYZYLORDA
Abstract
In the history of our country, despite having been an Independent state for over thirty years, there are still blank spots and unexplored facts. Historians and researchers need to carry out investigative work in archival collections, identify documents that shed light on such facts, and subject them to critical analysis. One of the topics requiring further study is the history of the establishment and activities of the Austrian immigrant commune "Ulfeld", which was founded in the settlement of Sabalak, located near the city of Kyzylorda.
The issue of creating this commune was resolved in Moscow, while its activities were carried out on the territory of Kazakhstan. The commune, consisting of victims of the First World War, existed in Kyzylorda for only one year. During that year, they restored the irrigation system, cultivated wheat, potatoes, millet, and garden crops, and carried out construction works.
This article examines the history of the creation and activities of the Austrian immigrant commune "Ulfeld": materials on the history of the commune's establishment, the conditions of the bilateral agreement, and issues related to the resettlement of immigrants are analyzed. The article also discusses the assistance provided to the commune by the Soviet authorities.
