Abstract

The article presents the results of the development of a sorption material based on local mineral resources for the effective purification of groundwater in Kazakhstan, where water scarcity is a significant issue. In this study, diatomite and montmorillonite were modified through acid and alkaline activation to investigate changes in their structure and sorption properties. The resulting material was tested for its ability to remove magnesium, calcium, manganese, chlorides, and sulfates from the groundwater of the Akkuray deposit.

The methods of physical and chemical analysis allowed to reveal changes in the morphology of the surface, porosity and functional groups of sorbents. As a result of the study, the optimal composition of an effective composite sorbent was proposed, which allows to improve the quality of water using local mineral raw materials. The proposed approach with u contributes to the development of environmentally friendly and cost-effective technologies for water purification in regions with a shortage of resources.
