Abstract

Annotation. General introductory information. The intensification of digital technologies and the informatization of all spheres of life in recent decades have placed high demands on the digital skills of modern people, actualizing the need to study the activity of children and their parents in the digital environment, their digital skills and the problems of the digital divide between them. The article presents the results of a study of the characteristics of activity in the digital environment (time spent on the Internet, independence in the development of digital space and tools) of adolescents and their parents, as well as their digital competence in terms of working with information, communication, creating digital content, security and problem solving. Purpose: to identify the features of media activity and digital skills of modern teenagers and their parents. Methods: an empirical study was conducted using a questionnaire survey of adolescents aged 12-14 years. Results. The study showed that teenagers outperform their parents in terms of their activity in the digital environment, while the activity of boys and girls differs: among boys, there are more of those whose independence is of high importance, and girls are more likely to resort to outside help when learning new things in the digital environment. Parents, according to their children, surpass them in the field of digital skills of working with information and electronic documents and spreadsheets, and teenagers are more proficient in installing programs and applications on digital devices, as well as editing photo, video, and audio files. Practical significance. The results of the study can be useful for teaching staff of educational organizations, as well as for scientists to conduct further scientific research.
